The Jamestown Wine Cellar is set to celebrate its 50th birthday this Saturday.
The drink and eatery, located at 309 N. Main St., is celebrating a half-century of serving drinks and food in Jamestown. To mark the occasion, management has organized a day of festivities, fun, food, and music.
“We’re going to have live bands, birthday cake, drink specials, food, and fun for the occasion,” said Joel Peterson Jr., an owner and manager of the Wine Cellar.
Peterson explained that his father, the Wine Cellar’s proprietor, opened and ran the place for many years, and he credits the business’s success to him.
“My dad, Joel Peterson, opened the business in 1976 and has guided the business for many years,” he said. “I recently and gradually started running it about seven or eight years ago. But my father was the real driving force behind it – we’re all extremely lucky he’s still around and are so proud of all he’s accomplished.”
Peterson said the doors will open Saturday at 1 p.m. Food service will begin at 3 p.m., with live music scheduled from 4 p.m. until after midnight as part of the festivities.
“Starting at 4 p.m., Bill Ward will perform. Bill’s been with us from the start of the business. Then at 6 p.m. Brian Hanna will be here, followed by The Away Team band, and at 10 p.m. Circuit Aura band will take center stage,” added Peterson.
Peterson said that he began working at the Wine Cellar as a doorman, and that one of the most rewarding aspects of his job over the years has been the opportunity to work alongside his father.
“I loved and love being able to work alongside my dad,” he said. “It really is the most rewarding part of the job.”
