Cassadaga expands Labor Day Festival

CASSADAGA - For several years, the village of Cassadaga has held its own Labor Day festival.
Now it's expanding with fireworks, a lawn mower dice run and a new day called "Cassadaga Days."
The Labor Day Festival will begin on Friday, Sept. 4, with a street dance at the American Legion Post 1280, located at 228 Maple Ave. The band Mock Pepper will be performing. There will be food trucks as well.
On Saturday, Sept. 5, Witco, Inc., led by AJ Witkowski, is sponsoring a day of activity at 86 N. Main St. Among the events is a Vendor Fair, where area businesses are invited to participate from noon to 8 p.m. Vendors can set up around the Witco businesses - King Kone, Fermentation Station and VP Racing -- at no cost to participate. All-day activities for family fun throughout the day include a bounce house, dunk tank, cornhole, and more. King Kone will be open to serve ice cream and pizza throughout the day.
From there, guests can walk up Main Street to check out the seasonal sports products available at Valley Outdoors, specialty coffee and food at 3 Lakes Café, unique artisan gifts at The Heart of the Valley, and activities in Ames Commons.
On Saturday night live music will be performed by Waiting on Jenna, a five-piece Buffalo-based band, from 5 to 7 p.m., at 86 N. Main St.
"Our goal is to get people out to discover Cassadaga, visiting our businesses, enjoying our lakes, and community, and seeing everything our village has to offer," Witkowski said. "Come hungry, bring the family, listen to some music, meet local businesses, and spend the day with us."
Also on Saturday, the Cassadaga Man Triathlon, presented by Wilson Endurance Sports, will begin at 8 a.m. This will include a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile bike ride and a 13.1 mile run. Register or volunteer at www.coachmarkwilson.com.
Saturday night there will be fireworks at the Johnny Fessenden Ballfields on Maple Avenue.
Sunday at noon will be a chicken barbecue at the American Legion Post 1280. The Farmers Market will be in Ames Common, which is the corner of Rt. 60 and Maple Avenue, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
At 4:30 p.m. Sunday there will be a boat parade to the theme of "Our Country's 250th Birthday Celebration." Participants should line up at the DEC launch at 4:15 p.m. Prizes will be provided.
From 5 to 7 p.m. the final beach concert on the Floating Stage will take place with Aces & Eights performing. If weather does not cooperate, the concert will be moved to either the fire hall or the American Legion.
On Monday, Sept. 7, there will be the grand Labor Day Parade at 11 a.m. on Maple Avenue. There will be bands, marching units, fire trucks and much more. Then, at noon, the Cassadaga Lakes Association (CLA) 28th Ducky Derby fundraiser will be held at the Fire Hall bridge. To close out the holiday weekend will be a lawn mower/golf cart/bicycle dice run. This will begin at 1:30 p.m. Participants are invited to start at the beach, ride around the lake and roll dice at stations. Prizes will be available. Registration costs $5 and opens at 11:30 a.m. at the beach on Park Avenue.
