Truck sale nets Lakewood department $25,000

LAKEWOOD -- The Lakewood Volunteer Fire Department (LWVFD) has raised more than $25,000 after selling one of its older apparatus.

During the village’s monthly meeting, the fire chief of the Lakewood Fire Department told the Board of Trustees the sale of the department’s 2000 American-LaFrance Custom Pumper, previously designated as E-372, generated $25,000 in revenue for the department.

“We sold it in-county,” said Fire Chief Kurt Hallberg.

The now more than 24-year-old firefighting apparatus has found its new home at the Findley Lake Volunteer Fire Department, located at 10372 Main St., Findley Lake.

“I wasn’t afraid to let it stay in the county,” said Hallberg laughingly.

The proceeds from the sale of the old pumper will be allocated to a reserve account titled A878-20: Capital Reserve – LFD Equipment, for future equipment purchases for the all-volunteer department.

Hallberg also reported that the LVFD has responded to more than 695 calls for service so far this year.
