Ellery not moving forward with water line

By John Whittaker 1 min read

There will be no water service extension into the town of Ellery as a project to extend Board of Public Utilities water into Ellicott begins.

A water survey last fall showed there wasn't enough support among town residents for Ellery to move forward with the proposal, which could have served part of Fluvanna. The BPU had contacted Ellery about a possible extension once the Ellicott project took shape.

The owner of apartments in Ellery had asked about the status of the potential water line during a recent Ellery Town Board meeting.

"The survey came back really sketchy," Larry Andersen, Ellery supervisor, told The Post-Journal on Wednesday. "It came back like 52% for and the rest were against. There were some that were depending on what it would cost them to hook up. We didn't feel it was worth it for only 52% of the town that wanted it and actually if you look at the sections that received the survey to fill out it would have come up in the high 40%. We notified the town of Ellicott that we weren't going to do it."
