UCAN to host fundraising gala Saturday
With a lot of work ongoing for UCAN City Mission, specifically on their women with children’s shelter, UCAN is set to host a gala on the first Saturday in June for both fundraising and awareness.
Executive Director Bruce Baehr said that the UCAN board decided to host a gala as it has been a while since they have done a large fundraising or awareness event for the mission. As the mission moves forward with the women with children’s shelter, he said they felt it was an opportunity to do this type of event for the mission.
UCAN’s gala is set for Saturday, June 6, at 5:30 p.m. at the Grandview of Ellington, 1116 West Hill Road, Ellington.
“People should expect a catered evening with the John Cross and Bill Ward jazz band,” Baehr said. “There will be a brief presentation from the mission on our work. There will be a silent auction, dessert from local bakeries, and an opportunity for people to come learn more about the mission and have an enjoyable evening.”
Baehr said the hope for the gala is that people will come out to learn more about UCAN and their mission, support them, and have an enjoyable evening with friends. Through the event, he said, UCAN will get to share with the community what they have been doing, and also thank them for their support.
“The community has been very supportive and behind UCAN for some time,” Baehr said. “This is an opportunity for us to thank the community and to provide an opportunity for them to hear more about our work.”
Specifically, UCAN City Mission provides a shelter for men facing homelessness right now, with the plans to continue their work at the former Jamestown Business College to provide a shelter for women with children in the near future. Baehr welcomed everyone to come join them at the gala.
Tickets are available for the gala now by contacting the mission at 716-488-7480 or on their website, ucancitymission.org.
