Promoter of canceled shows won’t be on future Reg schedules
A pair of canceled performances at the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts in recent weeks are not uncommon to Jamestown by the shows’ promoter.
Moxie Events, the promoter of the canceled Magic of Motown and the Ultimate Eagle Tribute Concert, has had several such cancellations around the country, particularly with the Magic of Motown show. The Motown tribute features 15 vocalists and a live six-piece band performing legendary Motown hits from The Temptations, The Jackson 5, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Aretha Franklin, and Marvin Gaye. In addition to the cancellation at the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts, cancellations in recent months include the Warner Theatre in Erie, the Orpheum Theatre in Arizona and performances in Jacksonville and Indiana earlier this year.
The same promoter is booking A Tribute Night To The Eagles. A performance scheduled for May 16 in Mississippi was canceled as well.
The cancellations prompted officials at the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts to reach out to the community.
“We know many of you are disappointed and frustrated by the cancellation of two performances presented by an outside rental promoter,” said Hillary Meyer, Reg Lenna Center for the Arts executive director. “We share those feelings. When events scheduled in our theater are canceled, especially on short notice, it impacts more than a single night of entertainment. It disrupts plans, creates inconvenience, and can understandably damage the confidence you place in our organization. We take that seriously. While the decision to cancel these performances was made by the outside promoter, we recognize that your relationship is with our theater, and that experiences like this reflect on us as well. Our patrons deserve reliability, professionalism, and clear communication.”
Ticket holders for both shows received full refunds while the center’s box office team was available to help ticket holders through the refund process. Upcoming shows at the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts include The Chipper Experience, a comedy and magic show, on July 8 at 7 p.m.; a Taste of Ireland – The Irish Music and Dance Sensation on June 21 and the Lucille Ball Comedy Festival’s Stand-Up Showcase on Aug. 7. Reg Lenna officials are also working to book next season’s schedule – and Meyer said Moxie Events won’t be on the schedule.
“We also want you to know that we are taking this matter seriously in our future business decisions,” Meyer said. “We continually evaluate the partners and promoters who rent our venue, and our priority will always be to protect the experience and trust of our audience. As a result of this situation, we will not be booking future events with this promoter. Most importantly, please know that our commitment to bringing quality entertainment, film, and arts experiences to our community remains as strong as ever. We are grateful for your continued support and for the trust you place in us.”
