DPW Contracts On Council Agenda
Multiple contracts are up for discussion at tonight’s City Council work session for the Department of Public Works, specifically in the areas of roadwork and materials and labor.
The first contract is with the Board of Public Utilities for a Roadhole contract. The BPU bid out roadhole work on March 19, that the DPW has utilized in past years. Specifically, this contract has been used for brick pavement installation and brick pavement relay. Any materials purchased for streets projects under this contract are charged to the 2026 DPW contractual services account, brick rehab, CHIPS and CDBG improvements.
Another contract up for discussion tonight is with Cattaraugus County for an asphalt milling machine. The resolution on tonight’s agenda will allow for the utilization of the Cattaraugus County agreement of purchase of materials, including liquid bituminous materials and hot mix asphalt in-place paving project that was awarded on March 25. According to the agenda, Cattaraugus County annually bids out purchasing of materials and labor that the city is allowed to “piggyback” off of. Items typically purchased from this contract include a Self Loading Milling Machine with varying rates and details depending on the extent of the work.
The DPW has already received approval to use the Chautauqua County Purchasing Guide for 2026, but Lake Shore Paving is able to meet the DPW’s need in regard to scheduling and manpower. Also, the cost to use Lake Shore Paving for this work is less than the rate to use Suit-Kote based upon comparing bid prices. The fiscal impact of this work for streets projects is charged to CHIPS.
Also on the agenda for tonight is a resolution in support of the submission of the Department of Development’s Annual Action Plan to the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, two hires, and concrete contract work.
The council’s work session begins at 7:30 p.m. in the police training room on the fourth floor of city hall. Council committees meet before the work session. The Housing Committee meets at 6:30 p.m. in the police training room with the Finance Committee at 7 p.m. in the mayor’s fourth floor conference room, the Public Safety Committee in the police training room at 7 p.m. and the Public Works Committee in the Development Department conference room at 7 p.m.
