Doctor Named To SUNY Optometry Council
Dr. Christopher Colburn, one of the owners of Spectrum Eyecare, has been named by Gov. Kathy Hochul to the College Council of the SUNY College of Optometry.
Dr. Christopher Colburn of Spectrum Eyecare has been appointed by Gov. Kathy Hochul to the College Council of the SUNY College of Optometry.
The appointment recognizes Colburn’s professional leadership, community involvement, commitment to patient care, research endeavors, and contributions to advancing the profession of optometry.
The College Council for the SUNY College of Optometry is charged with guiding the institution’s academic mission, clinical standards, partnerships and state-wide initiatives that advance public health and the profession of Optometry. Council members are appointed for their expertise, service to public health, and dedication to strengthening optometric education.
“I am delighted to be asked to serve on behalf of the profession of Optometry,” Colburn said. “The SUNY College of Optometry shaped my personal experience within the profession and I look forward to helping navigate its future.”
Colburn is a 1990 graduate of Southwestern High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Penn State in 1994. He completed his Doctorate Degree at the SUNY College of Optometry in 1998 and residency training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). He is board certified by the American Board of Optometry and a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. Colburn joined Spectrum Eyecare in 2000 and is an owner of the optometry practice.
Colburn was recognized by his peers as the New York State Young Optometrist of the Year in 2009, served as President of the New York State Optometric Association in 2014, and frequently participates on committees for the American Optometric Association. Locally, Colburn is a past president of the United Way of Chautauqua County, chaired the United Way annual giving campaign in 2009, and continues to serve on the United Way board.
“I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have had exceptional parents, colleagues, former partners, and a dedicated staff in practice that continue to provide invaluable guidance. It is a privilege to be part of such a talented team at Spectrum Eyecare and a wonderful profession,” Colburn said.
