Acceptance Of STRIVE Grant On Council Agenda For Work Session
The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services has announced their grant awards through the Statewide Targeted Reductions in Intimate Partner Violence program, and the acceptance of this grant award for the city is up for discussion at tonight’s city council meeting.
The city has applied for this grant program in partnership with Chautauqua County. The Chautauqua County STRIVE partnership received a total of $970,907. The Jamestown Police
Department was awarded $209,478 from these funds. The period for the grant award goes from April 1, 2026 to May 31, 2027.
According to tonight’s agenda, this funding shall be used for the prevention of, and intervention in, incidents of intimate partner violence through evidence-based, survivor-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive strategies. The Jamestown Police Department has been provided funding for overtime domestic violence details, a crime analyst position, outreach materials, canine supplies, a domestic violence case management system, as well as travel and training.
Also on the agenda for tonight are multiple different trainings and conferences, equipment purchases for the Parks Department, and the hiring of a Junior Civil Engineer in the Department of Public Works.
The council’s work session begins at 7:30 p.m. in the police training room on the fourth floor of city hall. Council committees meet before the work session. The Housing Committee meets at 6:30 p.m. in the police training room with the Finance Committee at 7 p.m. in the mayor’s fourth floor conference room, the Public Safety Committee in the police training room at 7 p.m. and the Public Works Committee in the Development Department conference room at 7 p.m.
