Project Crossroads, Tasers On Council Agenda
Multiple resolutions included on the agenda for tonight’s City Council work session are looking for approvals of equipment purchases from both the Jamestown Police Department and Department of Public Works.
The first item the police department is looking to purchase is Apricot case management software for Project Crossroads using funds from the STRIVE grant. The STRIVE grant was previously approved by the council, and the case management software will use $22,300 of those funds. According to the agenda, this program will allow Project Crossroads to uncover insights through advanced reporting and analytics, save staff time with automated, online intake, utilize its built-in communication tools, and employ the software’s preset workflows and automated alerts. No funds from the city will be contributed to this purchase.
The police department is also looking for the approval for the purchase of tasers. The agenda states that the department was recently informed that within the next six months their current tasers will become obsolete. A quote from Axon to purchase 25 new Axon Taser 10 devices comes in at the amount of $129,660.00. This quote also includes Taser Instructor training for each year, as well as holsters, cartridges, battery packs and magazines. In 2026, the Jamestown Police Department will utilize $66,499.60 in LETECH grant funds, which was previously approved by the Mayor and City Council. Chief Scott Forster is asking the City of Jamestown to fund the rest of the purchase. The cost will be $15,790.10 per year over the subsequent four years, or 2027 through 2030. Each payment will be due in the month of September.
Other equipment purchase resolutions included on tonight’s agenda from the DPW include a replacement mower for Bergman Park, the replacement of one DPW dump/plow/salt truck, the purchase of a new John Deere mower, the replacement of a walk behind mower for the Streets Division, and the replacement of a second DPW dump/plow/salt truck.
The council’s work session begins at 7:30 p.m. in the police training room on the fourth floor of city hall. Council committees meet before the work session. The Housing Committee meets at 6:30 p.m. in the police training room with the Finance Committee at 7 p.m. in the mayor’s fourth floor conference room, the Public Safety Committee in the police training room at 7 p.m. and the Public Works Committee in the Development Department conference room at 7 p.m.
