Family Of Fire Victims Thankful For Support

A Falconer firefighter walks through the debris in the kitchen after Sunday’s fire at a home on East Elmwood Avenue.

A fire Sunday on East Elmwood Avenue in Falconer was caused by an electrical malfunction in the kitchen of the home.

Falconer firefighters, with mutual aid from Kennedy and other departments, responded to a fire at 4:55 p.m. Sunday at 232 E. Elmwood Ave., Falconer. The county Fire Investigation Team determined the cause of the fire late Monday.

In the hours after the fire, donations began pouring in. Rachel Bunce, who along with her husband Jordan lived in the home, thanked the community in a Facebook post on late Monday.

“We are praising God that we are all safe, knowing things could have been so much worse; I know others have suffered this kind of tragedy immensely and I will forever seek ways to sow love/support back into my community for circumstances like ours. You have all touched our hearts, carried us through and made a huge impact on us during this time where the simultaneous weight of grief and gratitude are both far too great to articulate,” she said.

First, members of the Falconer Junior Falcons Football and Cheerleading program issued a call on Facebook Sunday night asking for help with baby girl clothes and men’s and women’s clothing, with organizers saying the family had received enough bottles, diapers and baby wipes as of Monday afternoon. Those who want to contribute to a Venmo fund can visit the post on the Falconer Jr. Falcons Football and Cheer Program’s page.

Then, a Go Fund Me campaign was created by a family friend. That fund, available at https://tinyurl.com/t8bk3vss, had raised $3,875 of its $6,500 goal through Monday afternoon. That amount had ballooned to $14,040 by Tuesday morning.

“I have never been at such a loss for words while also feeling so compelled to say something,” Bunce said. “My family and I are indescribably grateful, humbled, blessed and in awe of all of the love/support/help we have been flooded with the last 24 hours. I can’t possibly thank every individual with the deep sincerity and gratitude that we truly feel. Please know if you are reading this, if you have prayed, texted, stopped by or donated we are so, so thankful. I genuinely feel I don’t have the words. Thank you so much from the deepest heart of our family.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
