The Jamestown Police Department is in need of updating their current tasers, and a resolution was looked at by the city’s public safety committee and presented to the full council Monday night to support this purchase.

The resolution details a purchase agreement with the department and Axon Enterprise for 25 Taser 10 devices. The total purchase price is $129,660, to be partially purchased with previously approved funds from the LETECH grant in the amount of $66,499.60. The resolution was presented to the council by Councilman Tony Dolce, R-Ward 2 and chair of the public safety committee.

“The remaining balance of $63,160.40 will be paid over the course of the 2027 to 2030 budget, so $15,790.10 per year,” Dolce said.

Interim Police Chief, Scott Forster, said the current tasers the department has are no longer supported by Axon, leading to the need to upgrade.

“The ones that we have are not going to be supported by Axon anymore, so we have to upgrade and this is the best and newest one they have,” Forster said. “So, that’s why we’re going with this one.”

The other resolutions discussed and approved by the Public Safety committee include the purchase of Apricot case management software for the police department’s Project Crossroads and the approval of two seminars and training for local fire department members. The committee also approved four special events, including Roll and Read, the Jamestown Juneteenth Celebration, World Series of Wheels car show, and the Hispanic Heritage Festival.

Starting at $3.50/week.
