Any money that is raised will go to the organization, an extension of Cornell Cooperative, to put back into the community to better the lives and health of residents.
The event will take place on Sunday, Feb. 22, at the Chautauqua Harbor Hotel. Festivities for the event will begin at 3 p.m., which will include a basket raffle and bake sale.
Jeff Tome, 4-H youth development educator, said the bake sale typically encourages families, and youth members, to collaborate to contribute to the sale. All of this goes toward the group’s overall goal of furthering youth self-reliance, yet collaboration and responsibility as well. It is during this time that attendees will also have the chance to bid on the 30-50 baskets that are set up for a raffle. Tome noted the incredible volunteers that work with the group to put on various events, such as this one. These volunteers, through a host of clubs and animal education projects, hel[p to further the organization’s mission throughout the area. Tome stated that each of these associated clubs and animal projects will bring one to four baskets for the raffle. In addition to all of these baskets, a number of local businesses have also donated items for baskets at the event. Tome mentioned local businesses including a host of pizza shops, Pea Pod & Juniper, Eight Limbs Yoga, Salt, Craft and Cloth, and many more.
“We worked with True Value to get a chainsaw for the basket raffle, there’s an officially signed Dawson Knox jersey that’ll be raffled off at the basket raffle. There’s some pretty cool stuff,” said Tome. “Taco baskets, gift certificates, and wine, it’s amazing.”

Following these activities there will be a dinner which is set to begin at 5 p.m. With Tome having stated that 500 people are anticipated to attend, only certain venues could even hold such a crowd. After the dinner is the traditional pie event, where the pies are sold off to raise further funding for the organization. The pies, like other donations, come from a mix of local businesses and dedicated 4-H youth. Tome noted that seven kids, all between the ages of 10 and 18, are currently set to bake pies for the sale.
All the proceeds from this event will go toward helping 4-H support more local youth through education and events. Tickets for the event can be obtained from the Cornell Cooperative Extension Office. For more information contact 716-664-9502.
