CLYMER – Clymer officials are working to get new water meters installed for several larger users in the town.

Work has been ongoing in the town of Clymer over the last few months on installing new water meters for residents who get their water from the town, and during their most recent meeting the town board discussed where those installations currently stand.

Scott Trisket, highway supervisor, said at the town’s February meeting that one of the new water meters did freeze the weekend before the meeting, and that was the first time that that had happened for them so far.

“It did what it was supposed to, it cracked the freeze plate on the bottom,” Trisket said.

Big meters for businesses and other big water customers in the town have also been received following approval from Municipal Solutions to order those. The plan at the time of the meeting was to install one at a building of Heil Transportation on the Thursday after the meeting as the current one there was not working, along with the main one for the Dutch Village Restaurant.

“We have to do that after hours,” Trisket said. “So, we’re going to do that, I’ll see if Brittany will let me do that Thursday night at 7 o’clock. I’ll go down and switch it out really quick, it shouldn’t take more than about 10 minutes.”

With the plan to get those two specific ones in that are not working, Trisket said the only other main one he has any concerns about are for the bank, which he said they may have to hire someone to install for them as it is a little more in depth. He added there are about 10 more of the smaller meters to install once the weather breaks, though that has also come to a bit of a halt because people are not responding to the requests to switch the meters.

If the lack of responses continues, Town Supervisor Brian Willink said there are some things the town can do to get the installations done. Trisket said there is one that they may have to do that with, but for the others it is more of a matter of getting in contact with them, and it may come to needing to just go and knock on the door. Willink added that the sheriff could also get involved in the one case if needed, as installing these meters is something the town is allowed to do, and the property does belong to the town.

“Right in the water rules book we have explicit permission, so they have no right,” Willink said.

Installing these meters is part of the work being done to install a new water system in the town, and Willink said the town will continue to operate the old system as they continue to get ready for the new one through steps such as this.
