BPU Board Welcomes New Member, Reappoints Chairperson

In its first meeting of the year, the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities welcomed a new member, along with beginning with annual beginning of the year items such as committee appointments and electing a chairperson.

City councilman, Brent Sheldon, R-Ward 1, is the new council representative serving on the board. Sheldon takes the place on the board of former councilman Jeff Russell.

“Before I go into the organizational issues, real quick, I just want to welcome Brent as a new board member,” Mayor Kim Ecklund said at the start of the meeting. “Everybody else was here last year, so welcome Brent Sheldon representing city council.”

General Manager Kris Sellstrom, another new face to the board as he steps into the position following David Leathers’s retirement on Jan. 23, also acknowledged Sheldon before his report. There will also be some orientation sessions for Sheldon to do, Sellstrom said, and he also welcomed back the returning board members.

Besides the new members, the BPU also went through the annual committee appointments and the election of a chairperson. Following nominations and a vote, Greg Anderson was reelected into the position as BPU chairperson.

“I appreciate your support and the privilege to work with all of you,” Anderson said.

The BPU committees that board members were assigned to include the personnel committee, strategic planning, and financing and capital projects.
