Mason Maring of Westfield has earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest achievement in Scouting, and was formally recognized during a Court of Honor ceremony held recently.

Mason began his scouting journey at a young age as a Cub Scout in Pack 201 and later became a member of Troop 201 of Westfield. Mason Maring (center) as he is awarded the rank of Eagle Scout alongside Assemblyman Andrew Molitor

In addition to his scouting accomplishments, Mason excelled academically and athletically during his time at Westfield Academy and Central School, where he graduated as salutatorian this past June. A multi-sport athlete, Mason competed in football, wrestling, and track and field, earning numerous distinctions and competing at the state level in wrestling. Despite his demanding academic and athletic schedule, he remained an active and committed member of his Scout troop.

Achieving the rank of Eagle Scout requires completing all previous scouting ranks, earning 21 merit badges, holding leadership positions within the troop, and completing a significant service project.

Reflecting on his experience, Mason said, “Each completed merit badge and every overcome challenge has reinforced my appreciation and commitment to the values of Scouting and has allowed for personal growth.”

For his Eagle Scout service project, Mason led the revitalization of the Flag Pole Memorial at Portland Park in Portland in April of this past year. He planned, organized, and led fellow Scouts and volunteers in completing the project, which included replacing the flower bed border, topsoil, and plants, as well as installing a new American flag. Mike Kindermann, Scoutmaster of Troop 201, served as Mason’s Eagle Scout mentor.

Assemblyman Andrew Molitor attended the Court of Honor ceremony and presented Mason with a New York State Citation in recognition of his achievement. During his remarks, Molitor spoke to scouts and families about his role as a member of the New York State Assembly, emphasizing both the responsibility to debate and vote on legislation and the importance of serving constituents throughout Chautauqua County, the Irving Cattaraugus Reservation, and a portion of Erie County. He underscored his commitment to helping address the needs of the community whenever possible.

Mason is currently pursuing a degree in physician assistant studies at Daemon University. Looking ahead, Mason shared, “I believe that the skills and values I have gained through Scouting will serve me well in my future.” Mason’s dedication and leadership reflect a strong foundation for continued success.
