‘Turn’ Auditions Are Sunday At Spire Theater

Auditions for Turn are scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Spire Theater, 317 E. Third St.

According to the show’s Creator and Director Angelo Valentino Giuffre, Turn is a heartfelt, funny, and energetic new musical about love, ambition, family, and life’s unexpected turns. The production will build its original cast in Western New York, with selected performers taking part in both the world premiere production and the recording of the original cast album.

The creator said the original cast album will be recorded in a studio located within the Spire Theater complex.

Auditions are open to adult performers, teens, and children, and the creative team is seeking singers, dancers, actors, and ensemble members of all experience levels, Giuffre said.

“We are focused on casting the strongest performers possible, regardless of location. Performers from Western New York as well as northwestern Pennsylvania, including the Erie and Warren areas, are absolutely welcome to audition. Anyone willing and able to commit to the rehearsal and performance schedule is encouraged to do so,” Giuffre said.

The show follows its central character, Anthony, from adolescence into adulthood as he navigates love, ambition, and the cost of chasing applause. With an eclectic score and expressive choreography, Turn blends emotional storytelling, humor, and movement into a deeply human theatrical experience.

Rehearsals will begin in the spring, with performances scheduled for late May and early June at The Spire Theater.

“Once the cast is chosen, rehearsals will span about four weeks of a full rehearsal schedule, primarily weeknights in May. Prior to that, there will be a lighter rehearsal schedule of just a couple nights a week in the weeks leading up to May, most likely Tuesdays and Wednesdays, depending on cast availability,” Giuffre added.

With a wide range of roles in the show, Giuffre is looking for performers with personality, curiosity, and heart.

“This is an ensemble-driven piece, and collaboration is at the center of how the show was written,” Giuffre added.

Giuffre said he began working on Turn about five years ago, but started writing the music for the musical in eighth grade.

“The most rewarding part of bringing Turn from an initial idea to a finished script and now to the stage has been seeing something that lived in my head for years finally become real,” Giuffre said. “It has been a long time coming, and it is exciting to watch it take shape with real artists and collaborators. I am also energized by the possibility that Turn could have a life beyond this production, with other theaters around the country producing it in the future.”
