BUSTI – The Hazeltine Public Library is welcoming Kelly Hunt as the library’s December artist on display.
Hunt always had a love for art in school so in 2000 she picked up a paint brush and taught herself to paint. While working full time and raising three children she and her mom traveled together and took classes wherever they could.
Hunt practiced and perfected her skills on anything and everything. She uses oils, watercolors as well as acrylics and paints on furniture, clothes, mirrors and even the chimney outside her home.
She began teaching others and while teaching, experimenting and demonstrating she learned more and more; leading her to sell her work at fairs and festivals.
“While at these venues I discovered how popular painted glassware is; it seemed only fitting to paint on glass” Hunt said “Each of my pieces is uniquely designed, hand painted and finished to be functional. I have sold pieces to customers across the U.S. as well as Italy, England and Australia.”
In 2007, with her mother’s help, Hunt was commissioned to paint a bedroom mural designed from a scuba diver’s perspective.
“It’s complete with a ship wreck, whales, sharks, dolphins, seals, coral and every other fish you could imagine” she said.
Realizing there was potential in custom painting, Hunt left her job and plunged full-time into custom painting. Her favorite medium remains acrylics but she continues to add new techniques and designs to her portfolio.
Her business is “Three Broads and a Brush, LLC”, located in Russell. Details can be found on the business’ Facebook page. Hunt transforms homes and businesses with a fresh coat of paint, a new color or even a personalized design.
“I never imagined the friends I would make and the lives I could touch and change with a bit of paint and a brush, ” she concluded.
