Clymer Approves 2026 Budget With About 7.4% Tax Rate Increase
The town of Clymer officially approved their 2026 budget with about a 7.4% tax levy increase.
CLYMER — Clymer residents will see a roughly 7.4% tax levy increase next year.
During the November board meeting, the Clymer town board approved overriding the 2% tax cap levy limit before moving onto a quick budget review. Changes since the last meeting include an increase in highway equipment for the purchase of a truck, increasing sales tax for the highway department, and decreasing health insurance, which increased the fund balance used. In the general fund building permits increased along with the sales tax, which decreased the fund balance used, with other increases in health insurance, electric and retirement seen across the board.
“We were able to basically fund a lot of the things with money received from building permits and it looks like sales tax is going to be up a little bit,” Town Supervisor Brian Willink said. “But it does still result in a 7.4% increase in the tax levy.”
The town had just received the sales tax revenue amount for the fourth quarter before the meeting began, and Budget Officer Reilly Enlow reported that the town is seeing an increase for the fourth quarter and is $138,000 over budget for the fourth quarter sales tax. The extra money will increase the fund balance to help buy things like the highway department truck.
“Such is the story on the budget, there’s a lot of moving parts and it’s our best educated guess,” Willink said.
After approving the 2026 fiscal budget, the town approved the water budget as a separate entity due to the increase in things like the pipeline tax and meter fee. The meter fee will go from $10 to $25 a month and the pipeline tax will see an increase to $21 per parcel from $14 , $30 per house from $20 , and $75 per commercial from $50. The budgets for the lighting and fire departments were also approved.
