City Extends Light Contest Nominations
Nominations for the city’s Christmas Light contest have been extended to the end of the week. Mayor Kim Ecklund discusses the extension during Monday’s council meeting as Tony Dolce, R-Ward 2 and council president, looks on.
The amount of snowfall early in the season has caused some small issues in getting pictures for nominations for the city’s Christmas Light contest this year, enough so that the timeline for receiving nominations has been extended.
During Monday’s work session, Mayor Kim Ecklund reported that some of the pictures that have been received so far have been very snow covered, and the weather has prevented some from getting a good picture to be included on the website for voting, so nominations will be extended until the end of the week.
“We will be extending nominations until the end of the week so we can accept more nominations but so we can also get out and get some clearer pictures for the ones that are very snow covered,” Ecklund said. “We’ll probably have that posted for voting sometime next week with the final decision by the end of the year.”
The weather has not been very conducive for people, she said, who are getting their lights out late or the lights are ending up very snow-covered.
There have been quite a few nominations from residents, but Ecklund said they wanted to extend it to be fair and said more nominations are encouraged, even if it is a duplicate.
Councilman Randy Daversa, R-At Large, asked if once those are in they will be on the city’s website to vote.
“Once those are done you can submit it to the light website, lights email, and once the voting goes live you’ll see it in a press release and on social media how you can go to the city website to vote, just like last year,” Ecklund said. “There’s a lot of great lights out there this year, snow-covered or not.”
Once voting is open the light contest will be found on the city’s website, jamestownny.gov.
