Imagine Forestville’s annual First Day Hike will be at the Forestville Hiking Trail, from 1 until 3 p.m. on New Year’s Day, Thursday. Hot cocoa and s’mores over a portable fire pit will be offered.
The Forestville Hiking Trail is located at 11014 Walnut St, approximately a quarter-mile from Route 39 in the hamlet of Forestville. The trail is approximately one mile long and takes about 45 minutes to complete. There are small bridges and a few stairs. It is a relatively level trail that is uneven at times.
All ages are welcome to participate. Well-behaved pets are allowed on leash, with owners required to clean up after their pets. The Forestville Hiking Trail is a pack-in and pack-out trail.
Guests are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather. The trail will close and the event will be postponed if a storm warning is issued, with the rescheduled date reserved for Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m.

The event is held in conjunction with the National State Parks’ celebration of hiking trails and historic sites throughout the state. There are other locations across New York and throughout the country that celebrate First Day Hikes as a way to honor state parks and trails, including Department of Environmental Conservation lands, Forest Preserve trails, wildlife areas, canal trails, towpaths, and environmental education centers. The walks and hikes are family-friendly and typically range from one to five miles depending on the location and conditions. Check the state and national websites for more details and whether pre-registration is required.
No registration is required for the annual event held at the Forestville Hiking Trail. With any questions, contact Imagine Forestville President Aimee Rogers at aimeerogers@imagineforestville.org or (716) 870-5087.
