Sheffield Man Charged With Unlawful Contact With A Minor
A Sheffield man with ties to the Jamestown area was jailed on $75,000 bail after allegedly making lewd comments to a teenager working at a Warren business.
Donner J. Vonritter, 58, of Sheffield and formerly of Jamestown, N.Y., was charged with two counts of third-degree felony unlawful contact with a minor – sexual offenses and third-degree misdemeanor harassment on Tuesday by Warren city police officers. Vonritter was arraigned Tuesday by Magisterial District Judge Raymond Zydonik and taken to the Warren County Prison after bail was set at $75,000. A preliminary hearing will be held Nov. 19 in Zydonik’s court.
According to the criminal complaint, Vonritter used to live in Jamestown and has since moved to Sheffield. Police allege an 18-year-old was harassed while working at a local store. The youth told police he noticed Vonritter staring at him and allegedly “checking him out in a sexual manner, by looking at him up and down.”
Police looked at the store’s security video footage, saying the video allegedly confirms that Vonritter was at the youth’s work area and behaving lewdly. The youth told police that shortly after Vonritter left the store, at 7:09 p.m. Oct. 22, the youth answered the store telephone. Vonritter allegedly asked and confirmed that the youth was the one who answered before making sexual statements over the phone.
“The defendant was alarmed and scared by what he heard from the defendant and immediately hung up the phone without responding.”
According to the affidavit of probable cause, officers were able to retrieve Vonritter’s information based on the called ID of the phone number that called the youth’s place of employment.
“I called, spoke with and confirmed it was the defendant,” the officer said in the complaint. “The defendant did admit to me what he said on the phone to the victim.”
