Public Hearing On Budget To Be Held Before Council Work Session
With the city of Jamestown’s budget scheduled for approval at the end of the month, a public hearing on the budget is set to be held before tonight’s work session.
The public hearing will be held at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers on the second floor of the city municipal building, with normal work session items to follow in their regular locations. A summary of the 2026 General Fund Budget was included in a notice for the public hearing, outlining both the city’s expenditures and revenues for the upcoming year.
On the expenditure side, salaries are coming in at $20,196,870, with benefits at $14,060,742, contractual at $6,609,135, debt service at $1,825,887, capital at $2,730,000 and equipment at $155,429. For revenues, property taxes are at $17,966,786, with an unassigned fund balance at $3,340,616 and miscellaneous revenues at $24,270,661. The total budget amount for the 2026 general fund is $45,578,063.
The City Council’s Budget and Capital Improvement Program for fiscal year 2026 is available for public inspection in the Office of the City Clerk, 200 E. 3rd Street, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. — legal holidays excepted –, at the Prendergast Library, 509 Cherry Street, and on the city’s website.
Regular work session business includes resolutions authorizing the city to enter a lease agreement with the Board of Public Utilities for property at 240 Harrison Street, an agreement with WCA Services Corp, Alstar EMS for EMS and ambulance services, the purchase of motor oils for the Department of Public Works, and two change orders for a street project and the city hall roof.
The council’s work session begins at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the police training room on the fourth floor of city hall. Council committees meet before the work session. The Housing Committee meets at 6:30 p.m. in the police training room with the Finance Committee at 7 p.m. in the mayor’s fourth floor conference room, the Public Safety Committee in the police training room at 7 p.m. and the Public Works Committee in the Development Department conference room at 7 p.m.
