CLYMER — In recent months meetings have been held looking at the future of the Veterans’ Memorial Wall that sits out front of Clymer Central School, and Clymer Superintendent Beth Olson said during the most recent Board of Education meeting that a committee of volunteers has been formed to figure out how to carry on that work.

Olson said the original meeting about the Veterans’ Wall was due to the fact that it is in need of major repair.

“In that discussion there was no one that really stood up and said ‘I’ll be a point person’, or committee, and then we talked about the possibility of, could we move it?” Olson said. “Two ideas that were floated out there were the Historical Society and the other was the Town Park down by the pond.”

The town has tabled the discussion for now, and Olson said with the Historical Society already having a monument there it would have been redundant to move it there. Another meeting about the wall was held more recently, circling back to the issue, and Olson said people have now volunteered to be on a committee and they will be looking at how to update or revise it, including taking down the names and making them electronic. Olson said they are already available on the website, and they will be seeing if someone will be willing to carry on doing that.

“We meet again in January,” Olson said. “It will be up to the committee to decide what those changes are and how they’re going to get that done.”

Additionally, Olson said they are looking for more people willing to be on the committee and help with the Veterans’ Wall, and she can send anyone any information on that if interested before the January meeting.
