Certified Election Results Confirm Victories In Jamestown
The Chautauqua County Board of Elections has certified the 2025 elections.
Two races that could have been affected by absentee ballots included County Legislative District 12 and one of the Jamestown City Council At-Large seats.
For District 12, Legislator Fred Larson, who ran the Democratic and Taxpayer’s lines, received a total of 537 votes, while Jeff Russell, who ran on the Republican and Conservative lines, received a total of 487 votes.
With the results finalized, the Chautauqua County Legislature will have 12 Republicans and seven Democrats on the 19-member board when the new members are sworn in in January. Republicans had held a super-majority since 2014. A party needs at least 13 members to hold a two-thirds majority. Most legislation needs a simple majority to pass, but some does require two-thirds.
Because of a change in state law, all 19 legislative seats will be up in 2026. After that, legislators will go back to two-year terms.
For the three At-Large City Council races, there were five candidates running for three seats.
Russell Bonfiglio, who ran on the Republican and Conservative lines, received 1,827 votes; Jeremy D. Engquist, who ran on the Democratic line received 1,826 votes; and Daniel A. Gonzalez, who ran on the Democratic line, received 1,819 votes. In addition, Michael Zanghi received 1,766 votes and Randall Daversa received 1,704 votes. They both ran on the Republican and Conservative lines.
With the results finalized, the Jamestown City Council will have a Democratic majority of 5 to 4 for the first time since 2019.
