Sales Include $4.65M Historic Institution Home
A famous private residence in Chautauqua Institution has been sold for millions of dollars.
The Post-Journal and OBSERVER have been analyzing real estate sales in Chautauqua County and recently looked at the transactions from Aug. 18-22.
During this time period, 10 Elm Lane sold for $4,650,000.
This is described on line as an eight bedroom, 10 full- and four half-bathroom, 9,500 square foot residence with a four-vehicle garage on a 1.2 acre lot.
It is known as the Packard Manor, which was built by the co-founder of Packard Motor Cars, William Packard and his wife Katherine.
“About 1915, William Doud Packard built a Jacobean Revival Style Mansion summer home on the grounds of the Chautauqua Institution for the incredible sum of $175,000 (more than $5 million today). The house was designed by Warren and Wetmore, a famous architectural firm in New York City, New York which was founded by Whitney Warren and Charles Delevan Wetmore in 1897. Warren and Wetmore’s most important work is widely considered to be the construction of the Grand Central Terminal in New York City,” the website New York Heritage states in describing the property.
