Parking Garage Repair Consultant Hiring Approved By Council

During the September voting session the city council officially approved the hiring of consultants to design construction documents for repairs needed at parking garages on Cherry Street and Spring Street.

The designing of these documents requires a specialized consultant who works on parking garages, and the request for such consultant follows RFPs sent out by the city in 2024 to complete the required inspections for publicly owned city parking garages. During these inspections some critical items were flagged that needed to be addressed to prevent significant damage or possible failures to the structures. These items that were flagged require a consultant to complete construction documents so that the repairs can be made.

The total cost for the engineering design for the Cherry Street parking garage is $23,000 and $55,000 for the Spring Street one.

Also approved at Monday’s voting session meeting was the hiring of matrons for the city jail, a resolution in support of the Energy Choice Act and the amendment of alternate parking rules for certain areas in the city.

The Energy Choice Act has been introduced at the federal level by Congressman Nick Langworthy, with the goal of giving municipalities the choice of where their energy comes from. The resolution approved by city council Monday puts their support behind this act.

“Just a note that it’s got a Senate sponsor,” Councilman Bill Reynolds, R-Ward 5, said during the voting session. “Senator Jim Justice of West Virginia has a sponsoring companion bill in the Senate. For folks that want to look that up, it’s Senate Bill 1945.”

At the end of Monday’s meeting, Councilman Jeff Russell, R-At Large, also offered his congratulations to city police officer Alexis Carlson, who has been serving as a School Resource Officer for many years and who was recently promoted to drill sergeant. Russell noted that she is the first female in this role for the Jamestown Police Department.

“So, congratulations to her and the chief on this promotion and kudos to her,” Russell said. “I think she will do very well in this position.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
