MAYVILLE – There’s a new walking trail in the village.
During the Mayville Village Board meeting, Mayor Rick Syper announced that the village employees have put in a trail that expands the Mayville trail system.
“It goes from Lakeside Park to Route 430. This is Phase I of extending the gateway from the passage to uptown,” he said.
The village workers put the foundation for the trail which extends the trail system to Lakeview Avenue.
“This is a brand new trail,” Syper said.
The new trail is located between Napa Auto Parts and the Village of Mayville’s Lakeview Substation, and goes to the paved trail that is part of the Rails to Trails trail.
Syper said next year he would like to have a trail go to Elm Street by the library. That will depend on budgeting and costs.
He said it’s possible that after that is completed the village may put in a connecting trail to the Mayville Senior Apartments.
“The senior citizens asked for a trail from their complex,” Syper said.
In this year’s budget the village set aside $5,200 for the trail. Syper said if the village board agrees, they will do Phase II next year.
He said the trails are being placed so residents can walk from Lakeview Park to the Village Greens.
In other business, the village is looking to turn some of the tennis courts into pickleball courts. The village may eliminate one tennis court and make it into two, possibly three pickleball courts. This would likely be done next year.
Officials noted community residents are permitted to use the tennis courts at Chautauqua Lake Central School, so if a tennis court is eliminated, there are other options for tennis players.
