The Jamestown Kiwanis Club will celebrate its 105th anniversary with a dinner at the Landmark on Tuesday, Oct. 7.

The Jamestown Club was formed in 1920 just five years after Kiwanis was born in Detroit.

As a service club, Jamestown Kiwanis over the years has supported Salvation Army programs, the Jamestown Boys and Girls Club, Babe Ruth Baseball and JAYS Soccer as well as other youth programs.

The Jamestown Club has sponsored the Jamestown High School Key Club going back at least to the 1960s. The Key Club is the high school version of Kiwanis. Kiwanis members and Key Club members often work side by side to benefit the community.

At least three mayors of Jamestown over the last six decades were Kiwanis members: Stan Lundine in the 1960s, Steve Carlson in the 1970s and 1980s and Sam Teresi for all 20 years he was mayor.

For more than 40 years the Jamestown Kiwanis Club has sponsored an annual community-wide affordable blood testing program.

For the club’s 75th anniversary in 1995, the club adopted a mission statement that “The Jamestown Kiwanis Club is an organization of community leaders whose primary purpose is service to youth.”

Former members of Jamestown Kiwanis are invited to celebrate the 105th anniversary. Reservations can be made by Sept. 30 with Kiwanis Past-Presidents Chuck Nazzaro at chuckn@netsync.net or Sam Teresi at steresi99@gmail.com.

Starting at $3.50/week.
