A Busti resident, known to “give the shirt off of his back for anyone in need”, is now in need of some help of his own following a recent diagnosis of Glioblastoma, a type of brain cancer.
Jeremy Hasson was diagnosed with grade four glioblastoma in May at the age of 38. His sister, Ashley Rowe, said that during the surgery to remove two of the tumors from his right frontal lobe, Hasson suffered a vascular stroke that affected the entire left side of his body. He then had to go into a rehab facility to work on getting strength and the use of his left side again. Rowe said her brother has fought through it all and become strong again, currently on his second round of treatments for the glioblastoma.
“Jeremy is the most caring and selfless human,” Rowe said. “He has three small children, ages one through nine. He has been a long time volunteer fire fighter for Busti, and also an employee of the Town of Busti Fire Department. He would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.”
A benefit for Hasson is scheduled for Sunday at the Celoron American Legion Post 777, 26 Jackson Avenue, from noon to 4 p.m. The benefit will include a homemade spaghetti dinner, live music by Smokin’ 45, live auctions, a basket raffle, and a bake sale. The live auctions will begin at 2 p.m. and feature items including; a beef cow donated by Richie Lindell at Lindell farms in Busti, a large number of scratch off tickets, a wheelbarrow with alcohol, a hunting back pack, with trail cameras, an autographed hat and items from NASCAR driver Kyle Larson, NASCAR Parts from Hendrix, a fishing charter on Lake Erie, a Propane Firepit with chair, a Homemade Wood Bench that turns into a picnic table, a big screen TV, a muzzle loader gun, and a Homestead basket filled with packaged meats and other things.
Other than the live auction, there will be over 120 other times that will be in the Chinese auction, ranging from coffee, kids baskets, game baskets, lotto tickets, handmade quilts, afghans, and other homemade items. There will also be a cash raffle, 50/50 raffles, a gun raffle, a car ceramic coating auction, and many more items.

Rowe said her hope for the benefit is that the proceeds will help offset any financial worries Hasson and his wife, Bethany, may have, and allow them to enjoy their lives and make memories.
“This event means so much to me, and to the family,” Rowe said. “We are so blessed with the outpouring of love and support we have already received. It shows Jeremy he is not alone in his fight, and also how many people love and care about him.”
