CLYMER — Budget conversations are slowly beginning in the town of Clymer as the town is seeing an increase in some funding areas.

During the town board’s August meeting, Town Supervisor Brian Willink reported seeing both an increase in the town’s sales tax collection and CHIPS funding from the state.

“Sales tax collections are up 3.7% in the first half of 2025, which should help us budget time a little bit,” Willink said. “So, that’s always a good thing. CHIPS money has increased by $50 million to a total of $648 million statewide. So, I would assume that would mean a trickle down to a bit more for us, so we’ll see.”

Highway Superintendent, Scott Triskett, said they will not hear anything more on that until Governor Kathy Hochul gets the state budget set.

Also budget wise, the town briefly discussed the tax cap levy number.

“Our tax levy in 2025 was $521,000 in change,” Willink said. “The new maximum allow that we can have as an increase using the two percent number gets us to $541,717, so roughly a $20,000 increase.”

While the town has not started talking about the budget yet, Willink said they are right now in pretty decent shape. He said they will wait and see, but as of right now he would like to not have to increase the tax levy or need to use the tax cap override.

“I hate to do it because we did it the last couple of years so if we can kind of hold the line on most items that would be preferable,” Willink said. “But I also realize costs have come up like everywhere, so we’ll do the best we can.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
