Sherman Board Sets New Tuition, Fitness Center Fees

SHERMAN – Sherman Central School’s board has set new fees for tuition-paying students and use of the district’s fitness center.

District Clerk Kristin Irwin administered the Oath of Office to newly elected Board Member Kathy Sweatman, who begins a five-year term beginning July 1.

Board members also established the 2025-26 tuition rate in the amount of $200 per student for middle and high school and $150 per student for elementary. For those families enrolling three or more students, the third enrolled sibling and any additional siblings beyond will be $50 each, regardless of grade level.

Also at their reorganizational meeting, board members established fitness center membership fees. For Sherman area community members who are 65 years or older, a single membership is $100 for a full year. For those who are 18 to 65 years old, an annual single membership is $150. Monthly, quarterly and half year memberships are also available.

Board members approved contracted services for the 2025-26 school year, as well as board committee assignments, and approved the renewal of numerous appointments, effective July 1.

In other business, the board also approved the creation and the establishment of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, effective July 1. According to the National Association for Music Education, “Tri-M Music Honor Society is the only National Honor Society for Student musicians. Through performance and community service, students develop confidence, creativity, critical thinking, compassion, and a host of other leadership skills.”

Board members completed the first reading of Policy 7316 Use of Internet-Enabled Devices During the School Day and the second reading of Policy 1610 Annual District Meeting and Election/Budget Vote and Policy 5685 Maximum Temperature for School Building and Indoor Facilities.

In matters of personnel, board members approved the appointment of Theodora See to a four-year probationary position in the Special Education tenure area effective, Aug. 28.

They also appointed Alexis Oehlbeck to a four-year probationary position in the School Counselor tenure area effective Aug. 1.
