PANAMA — The village of Panama has discovered what the cause of a drainage issue on School Street is that has been discussed during their last few meetings.
During the August meeting, Mayor William Schneider said most of the issue was caused by an influx of water and a blockage.
“We finally have the mystery of the drainage figured out somewhat, in the fact that it’s fine,” Schneider said. “And, it’s newer, which I tried to tell everybody, but the officials from the town doubted what I knew. The pipes look great and the South Center Sewer District came and put their little robot hammer guy in there and it looks fantastic.”
The biggest problem with the drainage was that there was too much water in too short of a time and the drain could not handle it, and with a blockage that was also there Schneider said without that the problem may not have happened.
“He put a grate there, so it’s going to block things from jamming up the pipe,” Schneider said.
Additionally, he is waiting to hear back from the Soil and Water Conservation District to see if there is anything they can help them out with there as well.
The village briefly discussed a few other highway issues, such as curb signs by both Pond Road and Myers Road, and some other property maintenance issues on properties on South Street and a few other places in the village. It was noted that Code Enforcement Officer, Melanie Eddy, is doing what she can to help people get those properties under control but that it is difficult when the property owners live out of state. One other property is on Main Street, and Schneider said they are trying to resolve their issues.
