The event honored seven veterans from the Korean and Vietnam wars who received special recognition for their valor and sacrifice.

“It was a humbling privilege to address these veterans who selflessly put themselves in harm’s way so that we may continue to live free. The Purple Heart is the most solemn and sacred recognition a member of our Armed Forces can receive – a symbol of the deep sacrifice made in service to our nation,” said Langworthy. “We have a duty as Americans to honor their legacy, and their wellbeing will always remain a top priority for me as I serve this community.”

Wes Tessey, President of Veterans for Christ, added, “The men we honored are true heroes. They are grateful that Congressman Langworthy took this time to present these awards and recognize all veterans present. Congressman Langworthy ensured the veterans of his continued support in Congress. Some of their wounds may have healed, but the scars – both physical and emotional – remain. It means so much to our veterans and their families that the Congressman and community came out to support them. We are deeply grateful for his advocacy.”

VIETNAM VETERAN PINNING CEREMONY

Following the Purple Heart recognition, Langworthy led an impromptu pinning ceremony for nine Vietnam veterans who had not yet received their official 50th Anniversary Commemorative Lapel Pin.

While not part of the original program, the Congressman emphasized the importance of recognizing those who never received the welcome home they deserved. Since taking office, he has hosted ceremonies across Western New York and the Southern Tier, personally pinning over 800 Vietnam veterans.

“Vietnam Veterans did not receive the respect or support they earned when they came home. One of the greatest honors of my service in Congress has been working to right that wrong,” Langworthy said. “Each pin reads ‘A Grateful Nation Thanks and Honors You’ – a message that reflects the deep gratitude of the American people.”

Tessey noted, “The scars of war are not always visible. These men endured hardships abroad and then faced indifference at home. Congressman Langworthy’s humility in honoring them speaks volumes, and our veterans are truly grateful.”
