‘Viable Impact’: United Way To Hold Day Of Caring

Travis Maxwell, a volunteer from Nestle Purina PetCare Co., reads to students in the Dunkirk City School District as part of United Way of Chautauqua County’s Literacy Week 2025 earlier this year.

Individuals, community groups and business teams are invited to register for United Way of Chautauqua County’s first ever Day of Caring – a one-day, countywide volunteering event to benefit nonprofits and school districts.

Scheduled for Friday, Aug. 15, volunteer registration is now open and will run through Aug. 10. The United Way will be connecting individuals, families, corporate teams and other groups with more than 15 hands-on service projects at local nonprofits, schools and other agencies. Each project is designed to help the organizations advance their missions through support with tasks like landscaping, painting, organizing, cleaning and general maintenance.

“This initiative is a powerful example of how we can mobilize the caring power of our community for meaningful, viable impact,” said Katie Castro, United Way of Chautauqua County advancement director.. “When you register for Day of Caring, you’re doing more than giving a few hours of your time — you’re helping United Way support families at every stage of life.”

All projects are three hours long. Morning projects will run from 9 a..m to noon with afternoon projects running from 1 to 4 p.m.

Every volunteer will receive a Day of Caring t-shirt to wear at their project site. United Way’s 2025 Day of Caring is sponsored by Refresco and Fidelis.

United Way of Chautauqua County’s 2025 Day of Caring volunteer event will mobilize individuals, families, and corporate teams to complete hands-on projects at schools, nonprofits, and other community organizations across Chautauqua County.
