Trustee Begins Water Plant Review

Fredonia Trustee Paul Wandel announced a review “of all operational policies and processes” at the village water treatment plant.
Trustee Paul Wandel announced a review of the Fredonia water treatment plant, in the aftermath of the latest boil order.
“I will be working with the water treatment supervisor (Luis Fred) to review all operational policies and processes at the plant,” Wandel said at a Fredonia Board of Trustees meeting.
He said the review would include the plant’s recording systems, safety procedures, and the response if a bad event occurs.
Chautauqua County blamed “a treatment technique violation” at the plant for the July 8 boil order, the village’s sixth in 30 months. The violation “resulted in high turbidity such that water entering the distribution system was not adequately treated,” according to the county press release announcing the order.
An employee resigned July 11 over the mishap, according to Trustee Jon Espersen.
Monday’s Board of Trustees agenda noted that Fredonia received correspondence on July 11 from Corbin Dissell, where he resigned his position with the village, effective immediately.
