Songs Sung Well

Love Elementary Voices Featured At Tarp Skunks Games

Those who have cheered on the Jamestown Tarp Skunks this season have probably sung along with a chorus of students from the city’s northside during the iconic seventh-inning stretch.

Those enthusiastic voices ringing throughout Russell E. Diethrick Jr. Park belong to students from across grade levels at S.G. Love Elementary School, whose recording of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” is now a beloved staple at every home game.

The students, under the guidance of long-term substitute music teacher Anne Dolce, recorded the classic tune earlier this school year after performing it during a special assembly visit by the Tarp Skunks’ mascot Whiffy and Dolce’s son Christian, a 2019 Jamestown High School graduate, who serves as the team’s General Manager and Director of Business Operations. Christian requested the recording after being impressed with their performance at the assembly and it’s been subsequently played at every home game this season.

Love School students also performed “The Star Spangled Banner” in-person during the “Kids Game” in June.

“It was such a joy to work with these students and watch their confidence in their singing voices grow over the course of the year,” shared Anne Dolce. “Love School is a special place filled with talented students. Having the chance to learn, perform, and record this classic song gave them a fun goal to work toward, and I’m so proud of how they came together to create something special.”

Christian Dolce echoed his mother’s sentiments, highlighting the community impact.

“It’s been wonderful to feature the voices of local students during such an iconic moment of each game,” he said. “The students at Love are so talented and our community has enjoyed hearing them throughout the season. Having my mom involved made it even more meaningful, and it’s just another way we’re proud to connect our team with the Jamestown community.”
