After months of dealing with major potholes and having work done on East Second Street, the emergency paving work has been completed.

Councilman Randy Daversa, R-At Large and chair of the City Council Public Works Committee, said work that had originally been scheduled to happen back in June but ended up starting in early July has officially been completed.

“We’re happy to say that the so-called emergency paving on East Second Street is complete,” Daversa said. “It looks pretty good and I know it will make a lot of the traveling motorists happy.”

All of the westbound lane has been milled and paved, not curb-to-curb but the actual driving lane and the eastbound lane’s worst spots were milled and paved, and the rest of it was patched, Daversa said.

“It’s a welcoming sight until they complete the major project next year,” Daversa said.

Among the other project updates for the Public Works Department given to the council was the guard rail outside of Persell Middle School, which was removed during the redoing of Baker Street and has been discussed multiple times by the council as they look to put it back in. Prep work for the sidewalk in that area has begun, Mark Roetzer, interim public works director, said. It was noted that the school district is also continuing to help with that project as well, and that they hope to have it set by school time.

“The county is going to help us with the guide rail,” Roetzer said. “So the contractor will come and pour the sidewalks, and then the county will come in and help us put in the guard rail. The guard rail should be delivered by the end of the month.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
