Police seek help in hit-and-run incident

Eight police cars lined the side of Route 6 on Monday, reducing the traffic to one lane as they investigated a hit-and-run crash involving an unknown vehicle and a red gas-powered motorized bicycle.

The crash occurred at approximately 7:35 a.m. along Route 6 near Zimmerman Hill Road in Mead Township, across the Allegheny River from the United Refining Company Refinery. The unknown vehicle was traveling east on U.S. Route 6 when it struck the bicycle and then fled in an unknown direction.

The victim was taken by Life Flight to UPMC Hamot in Erie, Pa. No further information on the victim was available in the afternoon.

Anyone who may have witnessed this incident or was in the area and observed the bicycle either before or after the crash is asked to contact the Warren barracks of the Pennsylvania State Police at 717-728-3600.

Anyone who traveled this route and who has a dash camera that may have recorded the bicycle and other vehicles is also requested to contact the Warren barracks.
