Fredonia Woman Calls $4,000 Water Bill ‘Insane’
A Fredonia woman is enraged over her recent $4,000 water bill.
“$4,000 for five people. That is insane,” said Ashley DiFrancesco on Friday.
That bill is for an apartment complex on Brigham Road over 62 days from March to May. DiFrancesco said previous bills, for the same period of time, were between $400 to $600, which has led to the current quandary.
DiFrancesco previously called the OBSERVER about her situation. “I wasn’t going to say anything but I went online and similar things are happening to others,” she said.
“They’re telling me I used almost a million gallons,” DiFrancesco continued.
“Their rebuttal was I needed to take care of it on my end.”
She subsequently had three separate plumbers look at her water service. “They looked for leaks — there were no leaks at all, none.” Two of the plumbers said the water meters need to be replaced.
However, DiFrancesco said, the village told her “they don’t touch those types of meters… because my meter is slightly bigger than what they (currently) put in, they can’t fix it.”
DiFrancesco said she attempted to call Mayor Michael Ferguson about the matter. “He said, ‘Listen, I’ll call you back.’ He never followed up.”
Village officials offered to put her on a payment plan, she said.
“I never do this, like call the OBSERVER (to complain). But no one is helping. I’m not the only one this is happening to.
“I’m so mad about the taxes on top of this. What are we really getting out of Fredonia? A boil water order for a week.”
DiFrancesco concluded, “I’m not trying to stir the pot here. But when the mayor doesn’t call you back, when all they do is offer a payment plan — I’m sick of this. Something is wrong, something is wrong.”
