Council To Discuss Potential Zoning Changes In Jackson-Taylor Park Area
The Department of Development is seeking input in regards to changing the zoning in the area around Jackson-Taylor Park.
Discussion around this potential change is scheduled to be talked about during the City Council’s work session on Monday. Specifically, the Department of Development is looking to change the zoning from an R-2 to a C-1. This means, currently the area is an R-2 district, or residential district, and the city is to change it to a C-1 or neighborhood commercial district in response to two variance applications the city has received this year for the area to change the allowable use in the R-2 district.
An existing R-2 district allows for single family residential district uses or structures and two family dwellings. A C-1 neighborhood commercial district allows for multifamily residential district and professional office district permitted uses and structures, general office, personal service establishments, retail when enclosed and more.
According to the city council agenda, this amendment will create additional opportunities for small businesses while allowing housing to remain allowable. The DOD is seeking input on this change from the City Council as well as city boards, commissions and the public in regard to this amendment. The amendment’s public comment period will last from July 15 to Aug. 4, and a public hearing will be held for it on July 28 in the city council chambers prior to the voting session.
Also on the council agenda are resolutions seeking the approval for the Consolidated Funding Application from the city for both the Market New York Program and Pro Housing Supply Fund. Included in the public safety committee’s special event applications to be discussed and approved by the committee is an application for the Downtown Cruise-In event, which was previously dropped by the CHQ Chamber and has now been picked up by My CHQ and Wicked Warrens to allow the event to happen this year after all.
The council’s work session begins at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the police training room on the fourth floor of city hall. Council committees meet before the work session. The Housing Committee meets at 6:30 p.m. in the police training room with the Finance Committee at 7 p.m. in the mayor’s fourth floor conference room, the Public Safety Committee in the police training room at 7 p.m. and the Public Works Committee in the Development Department conference room at 7 p.m.
