Two Arrested In Separate Burglary Incidents
Two Jamestown men have been charged with burglary in separate incidents on Thursday and Sunday.
At 11 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to the Hotel Jamestown for a report of a suspicious male observed wandering around the premises. While officers were on their way to the scene, a Hotel Jamestown resident called back to report that the unnamed burglar had been encountered inside a secured area of the building and was seen rummaging through personal property belonging to residents of the Hotel Jamestown. The man then fled the building.
Officers searched the surrounding area and were able to track the suspect’s path to a location near the Washington Street Bridge, where they found the man hiding in dense vegetation.
Mark R. Burch, 32, of Jamestown reportedly had outstanding arrest warrants and was further charged with second-degree burglary, third-degree criminal tampering, possession of burglar tools and two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. A search allegedly revealed Burch was in possession of methamphetamine and suboxone. Burch was taken to the city jail until he could be arraigned.
On Thursday, Joseph M. Helms, 43, was charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree grand larceny and possession of burglary tools at 7:30 a.m. after officers responded to a burglary in progress at a business on the west side of the city.
A business owner allegedly caught Helms in the act and was able to point him out to officers as he fled from the business. Officers reportedly identified the burglar as Helms and found he allegedly entered the garage of the business in the early morning hours and stole items valued at more than $3,000.
Helms was taken to the city jail until he could be arraigned.
