Trustee Clarifies Alcohol Consumption At Concerts
LAKEWOOD – Alcohol consumption still can happen at Rock The Lake Concert Series, but only in the planned sponsor tent.
There has been confusion circulating about where alcohol can be consumed.
The series, presented by the Lakewood Community Development Corp., consists of four free shows to be held at Richard O. Hartley Park from 2 to 5 p.m. The show dates are July 6, July 27, Aug. 10, and Aug. 24.
On Monday, Village Trustees approved the modified resolution. In November 2024, trustees approved a resolution series at the park.
The resolution, approved Monday, calls for the serving and consumption of alcohol on village grounds in a designated area during the specified time for the concerts for people 21 years old and over.
Barnes clarified that the LCDC planned the sponsor tent to give the sponsors of the series, who made the concerts possible, a front row seat, with the amenities of food and drink and to thank them for their sponsorship.
“Each sponsor will be given a pass to enter the tent, and each sponsor will be issued a certain number of guest-passes for the tent. Those concert attendees allowed into the tent and that are 21 years old or older will be able to consume alcohol. Alcohol use will be limited to the tent and the roped off area only. The tent and perimeter will be monitored. No alcohol will be allowed outside of the tent,” Barnes said.
There will not be alcohol sold to the rest of the concertgoers, Barnes noted.
“The village’s open container law will be in effect for the rest of the park. The open container law will be enforced during the concerts.”
Barnes said the LCDC has to provide village officials a copy of the required state Liquor Authority temporary permit. The LCDC also has to provide village officials with copies of the certificates of insurance for general liability, liquor liability, and naming the Village of Lakewood as an additional insured.
