CLYMER — As work continues on the town of Clymer’s water system upgrade, a pre-planning construction meeting is set for Wednesday, June 17, for the engineers to go over the plans before official construction begins.

During the town board’s June meeting, Town Supervisor Brian Willink said the meeting is set for 11 a.m. at the town clerk’s office, 562 Clymer-Sherman Road, for anyone interested to stop in and hear what the engineers’ plans are when they begin to put the system in place. The meeting will be with the town, construction team and engineers.

“There was some discussion because we did not maximize the grant about, you know it’s kind of nice to have some things in the system that we would maybe think about that would be a good purchase or that we would put some money towards or come up with a plan,” Willink said. “So, there were a few little projects that we developed and we were trying to figure out how we were going to squeeze them into the grant this year and maximize it, or what the engineers would like to see us do is apply for another Community Development Block Grant.”

The town applied for a CDBG grant last year, and Willink said while the town did not get it last year the engineers said it is something that comes up once a year and that the town can put another application forward, showing that there is a plan in motion for the water system and including a few things they would like to do but cannot afford with their current funds, in the grant application.

A public hearing is set for the town’s July meeting as a part of the procedure to move forward with applying for another CDBG grant for the water project.

The town has also been working on installing new water meters as they prepare for the construction of the new system, with 85 new meters installed in the town. Highway Superintendent Scott Trisket said the process has been going relatively fast so far as most are scheduled following Facebook posts on the Town Clerk page and he can just go knock on their doors.

“Spread the word too, because some people aren’t following Facebook so they don’t know that we’re doing water installation, so spread the word,” Town Clerk, Wendy Trisket said.

Trisket noted that most people have been willing to let them install the meters and that the process has gone relatively easily. A training will be held on the system for the town in October, he said, once the meters and system are ready to go.

Another potential use for the CDBG grant, Trisket said, could be purchasing bigger meters. These bigger meters are for more commercial places that the town will need to purchase and install.

“We probably won’t get the grant before the October deadline though, so we’ll probably have to fund that,” Willink said. “We can maybe put it towards that, but we won’t have the money to do it right now.”

The bigger meters have not been ordered as of yet, as Trisket said he has been focused on getting the current ones put in and seeing who had what. Another question the board discussed is where they might put piping for the water project, which Trisket said there are not a lot of good options for. Willink said that can be talked about at the construction meeting too.

Starting at $3.50/week.
