CASSADAGA — After an unsuccessful first attempt at securing a substantial grant from New York State, the Village of Cassadaga is hoping to receive even more feedback from its residents for its next try.
The Village’s NY Forward Grant Committee is hosting a Public Input Town Hall meeting at 7 p.m. today for the purpose of discussing areas of focus for the grant submission.
The Village Board will also hold a public hearing at the beginning of its July 9 meeting at 7 p.m. to discuss the Community Development Block Grant process.
The Village is eyeing resurfacing of Frisbee Road now that CHIPS money has been awarded. The Village Department of Public Works will evaluate its options to improve the road conditions. The Village has also received correspondence from the State Department of Transportation that rejected several inquiries made by Village officials, including a speed limit reduction. However, there are plans for a crosswalk to be implemented at “the four corners” in the village, along with sidewalk improvements along Route 60.
Regarding the Bathhouse at the Beach project, Deputy Mayor Bill Astry said there has been “incredible progress” made in the past week or so. Astry has taken on a substantial role with the project, which has been ongoing for several years. Astry hopes to complete the project in the coming weeks.
The Village Board approved hiring Blaise Miller as a seasonal worker for the summer months to assist with lawn mowing duties around the village. Deputy Mayor Bill Astry said of Miller, “I wish that all the job interviews could be like that.”
The Village Board also approved the hiring of lifeguards for the 2025 summer season. Among those hired include Ava Hartung, Fredonia High School Class of 2024 Valedictorian, and Charlotte Couchman, Cassadaga Valley High School Class of 2025 Valedictorian.
The next meeting of the Cassadaga Village Board is Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Village Hall.
