City Council members will vote Monday on a long-discussed proposal to move the start of alternate parking in the city back a month.

During Monday’s work session the Public Safety Committee brought before the council the local law set to change the alternate parking switching dates from October to November.

“The first section of it, 290-22 Parking from April to October, between the first day of April and the 31rst day of October for monthly periods on all streets in the city all cars shall be parked only on the odd number side of the street during odd number months and only on the even number side of the street during even number months,” said Jeff Russell, R-At Large and committee chairman.

He continued reading the new local law, saying that the number of the month on the first day of said month at 10 a.m. determines the side of the street where parking is allowed. The second section of the law, 290-23, states that parking from November to March — which Russell noted was where the change comes in, changing the month from October to November — says that cars shall be parked on odd number sides of the street on odd days of the month and on the even number side of the street on even days of the month.

“The date of the day at 10 a.m. determines the side of the street on which parking is allowed,” Russell said.

The council noted that the only change being made to the local law was the month that alternate parking began from October, to now begin in November. During previous discussions by City Council it was said that many people in the city have expressed their support for this change, and that it was thought that beginning the alternate parking change in October was too early.

Starting at $3.50/week.
