Toys for Tots opens annual drive

Chautauqua County Toys For Tots’ annual gift drive is underway, with more than 120 collection boxes up throughout the county.

New, unwrapped toys can be placed in any of the boxes. The toys most needed at this time are for teens and for boys aged 3 to 8.

The donation boxes will be collected by Dec. 20-21 and some need to be collected earlier that week.

A 12 Days of Christmas ticket drawing, a Toys for Tots fundraiser, is running from Dec. 10-21.

Families that would like to receive toys can apply until Dec. 17 online at toysfortots.org. Toy distribution dates in both Dunkirk and Jamestown are Dec. 20 from noon to 4 o.m. and Dec. 21 from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Volunteers are still welcomed for toy distribution and associated preparation work on the next few weekends.

“The need for donations is great every year, and this year is no different,” said Lauren Boyle, one of the local Toys for Tots drive organizers. “Last year we gave toys to 5,148 children ages 0-17, and are expecting to reach that number, if not more, this year.”

A full list of all the collection sites is on the Toys for Tots Facebook page, “Chautauqua County, New York – Toys for Tots.”

If you have questions about how to donate or apply for toys, or volunteer, email them to Jamestown.ny@toysfortots.org.
