Change is in the air when it comes to the Jamestown Jackals.

Kayla Crosby, Jackals owner, said during a recent dinner party held at the Double Tree by Hilton that the team is stepping into a more competitive league the team is set to play in.

“We will be playing in the Basketball Super League (BSL) for the upcoming season,” said Crosby.

The Jamestown Jackals were founded in 2015 by Crosby and joined the minor professional Premier Basketball League (PBL) for the 2016 season. The Jackals then jumped to the North American Basketball League (NABL) after the PBL folded at the end of the 2017 basketball season. On Aug. 29, 2018, The Basketball League (TBL) announced the Jackals would join the rebranded league for the 2019 season, where they’ve played for close to the last five years.

“This is our tenth year playing basketball and supporting kids in our community,” said Crosby. “In addition to providing a low-cost, high-quality, family-friendly, game environment our mentorship program provides an opportunity for our player to interact with youth in our area and provide a positive mentorship program that focuses on character development; staying in school; individual and team achievement and much more.”

However, Crosby also hinted at the personal challenges she’s faced while owning and running a professional basketball team.

“When I started the Jackals 10 years ago, it was with the thought of mentorship for the kids in our community. However, this last year we lost close to $63,000. Now, we’ve moved up to a higher level of competition and we must broadcast our games on two different platforms,” she said. “Community support is imperative.”

Crosby said for anyone wishing to support the Jackals please contact her, via the team’s website. For more information visit jamestownjackals.com
