With Help From STW, Lakewood Updates Website

LAKEWOOD – Village trustees Monday learned more about the recently-updated village website.

It’s address, lakewoodny.com, is more user-friendly, said Clerk/Treasurer Apryl Troutman.

“It’s been live since last week,” Troutman told trustees. “It should be very user-friendly, and should be easier to navigate.”

She added that the new website was designed by Southern Tier West Regional and Development Board located in Salamanca. Troutman said the agency has helped with multiple municipal websites.

Southern Tier West serves Allegany, Cattaraugus, and Chautauqua counties.

According to southerntierwest.org, STW is the regional planning agency for Allegany, Cattaraugus, and Chautauqua Counties in Western New York. STW assists 124 towns and villages in a diverse set of topics including community and economic development, community planning, data and information services, environmental and energy planning, regional services, local food planning, local government and community assistance, and water source management.

Trustee Ellen Barnes said the updated site is very easy to navigate.

“It is very easy,” Barnes said. “You can find the information you need, whether it’s meetings, agendas, everything (is found) very easily on it.”

Mayor Randy Holcomb is very appreciative of the updated site.

“It is designed for ease of use in finding Lakewood information that users are looking for,” Holcomb said. “With this terrific new design, residents, property owners and all users are able to get their questions answered and obtain the information they need – from amenities to village departments. Huge thanks goes out to all that worked on this project through its completion.”

Once on the homepage, users will be greeted with a picture of the clock tower. The words, “home,” “government,” “amenities,” “calendar,” “Lakewood history,” “police department,” “fire department,” and “log in,” are embedded in a white banner and have drop-down menus associated with them. If users don’t find the information they are looking for, users can use the magnifying glass at the top, right-hand corner of the page as a search tool. If users click on the magnifying glass, a drop-down menu is displayed, with the word “search” located at the left, near another magnifying glass. Users can type in a word or phrase and then click on the magnifying glass at the left, and a new page displaying information with links is displayed.

“This website was designed to enhance communication between the village, residents and tourists,” Trustee Ben Troche said. “It’s simple, easily accessible and informative.”

Troche thanked Troutman, Deputy Clerk Krysten Yager, and Deputy Treasurer Stephanie DePonceau for the help with the updated site.

Previously, the website had undergone a transformation in March.

Troutman said the information is still being added to the site.

“If anyone has any suggestions or has trouble with the site, just let us know,” Troutman said.

Troutman can be reached at 716-763-8557 or email troutman@lakewoodny.com.
