PANAMA — The village of Panama has received new bins that its garbage service provider, Casella, has promised to give to each house requiring pickup.

Each residence in Panama that has garbage picked up by Casella as a part of the service given by the village, has been given both a trash bin and recycling bin to put garbage in to help when Casella comes to pick up trash. Now that the bins are in the village, the village has received feedback.

“There’s been a lot of discussion, a lot of talk with people in the community,” Mayor William Schneider said at the recent village board meeting. “Some people don’t like it. That’s tough. We’re going with these new bins.”

Schneider said the village is in the process of compiling a list of residents who still need bins. The village discussed a few people that they knew needed a set, and Schneider asked for them to send him specific street addresses to get a full list of what is needed.

Village Trustee Kim Davis asked if it was possible for some residents to only get a garbage bin and not recycling. Schneider said that was something they could do, but that it might be harder for them to get an extra one if any resident was in need of an extra.

“If we had a hall with a garage, I would’ve taken some of the extra ones in and put them in there to have on hand in case we needed to swap one out with a broken one or you know, somebody came up short and needed one,” Schneider said. “But, we’ll get it figured out. It’s a new system, so it’s going to have some glitches, which shouldn’t be a problem and it will smooth out.”

Schneider asked the board to send him the list once they have it and he will send it on to Casella.

Starting at $2.99/week.
